Invisible Disability Awareness

This dog statue raises awareness of the globally recognized Invisible Disability Sunflower, which indicates that the wearer has a non-visible disability — such as a chronic illness or neurodivergence — where extra support, such as a service animal, may be needed.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Laura Lee Gulledge is an inimitable community artist, author, and graphic medicine woman living in a mountain schoolhouse outside Charlottesville. She is also a collaborative muralist, comics journalist, cuddle facilitator, and neurodiversity activist. Her books include The Dark Matter of Mona Starr, Page by Paige, and Sketchbook Dares. (Abrams Books) Artners include the Kennedy Center, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Discover Black Cville, and Boys & Girls Club.
