Bird Dog
Location: Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital
Hunters use Labradors to retrieve downed birds, such as pheasants. They are called Bird Dogs. With a play on the phrase “Bird Dog”, I have created a dog inspired by the pheasants they retrieve; using colors, feathers and patterns. I use glass and mirror to create a visually exciting dog that changes with light and viewpoint.
Artist: Jane Feild
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Jane Feild attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where she earned a BFA in Painting and Printmaking. While experimenting with glitter and metallic powders in paint, her work began to take on a mosaic-like quality, which led her to explore glass and mirror as primary mediums.
She “paints” using the colors and textures of glass, building patterns that create movement and depth. Iridescent surfaces and textured mirrors catch and reflect light, causing the pieces to shimmer and shift. Her work becomes almost chameleon-like—constantly changing with light, perspective, and the viewer’s movement.
