Bee-Long here

Location: Bon Secours

She’s golden. Inspired by facility dog Josie, this sculpture gathers what students say she brings into their lives—hope, belonging, rhythm, and inclusion. Thirty-seven bees—one for every 1,000 students she serves—shimmer in tribute to her golden coat and gentle impact.

About the Artist and statue Sponsor: Friends of Josie

“Friends of Josie” is a group of Virginia Tech employees who came together, drawing on their talents and various artistic backgrounds, to create this collaborative piece. Each contributor helped shape a visual representation of the comfort, connection, and healing that facility dogs bring to their communities.

Those who know Josie best lovingly call her “Honey Bunny.” Inspired by this nickname, the sculpture draws on the imagery of bees and the cooperative spirit of the hive. The honeycomb structure is filled with symbols that represent the many ways facility dogs support and uplift the people around them.

The sculpture includes 37 bees—one for every 1,000 students at Virginia Tech, where Josie serves—symbolizing the wide-reaching impact of care, community, and emotional support.
