This series of classes is for anyone who wants to be a Puppy Raiser, and for anyone who would like to learn how to work with and train our dogs. This class is also for volunteers who would enjoy taking an older dog home on Nights & Weekends.
Each class is three hours long and consists of three parts: training methods and discussion of reading material (yes, there is homework); practical training where each person trains specific behaviors; and practice handling and taking a dog out in public. This class offers an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering with the dogs at Service Dogs of Virginia.
Please fill out our Puppy Raiser application and you will be notified when the next class is scheduled. Generally, classes are held either one weeknight starting at 5:30 or 6:00 pm, or during the day on Saturday for five weeks. The classes will be led by Peggy Law, our Executive Director and Director of Training.
Due to the intensity of the course and the amount of material covered in each class, attendance at all five classes is required. There are a limited number of spaces available in this class, so please let us know if you are interested in attending.
