A New Path: Bika Joins the CIA Training ProgramAfter much careful consideration, it became clear that Bika’s purpose lay beyond service dog work. She left Service Dogs of Virginia to join one of the nation’s most elite teams—the CIA’s Detector Dog Program. There, Bika completed rigorous training to become an Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) Dog. These highly trained dogs can detect hidden electronic devices—everything from tiny microSD cards to laptops—by sniffing out the unique chemical scent of circuit boards. Bika officially graduated on June 23 and will soon begin her new assignment with NCIS, using her remarkable nose to help protect national security. Letting Her Go—And Letting Her ShineSaying goodbye was hard. But at SDV, we believe every dog has a purpose. As behaviorist Kim Brophy teaches, dogs thrive when their natural talents are recognized and respected. For some, that means bringing independence to someone with a disability. For others, like Bika, it means serving the greater good in a different—but equally important—way.
