Volunteer Training Classes

We genuninely appreicate your interest in our organization and will re-activate the volunteer application process at a future date, so check back often. In the meantime, other ways you can help Service Dogs of VA is by considering becoming a puppy raiser, dontating items on our wish list, purchasing note cards (all proceeds go to our programs) or donating funds to help raise and train the dogs. This series of classes is for anyone who wants to be a puppy raiser, and for anyone who would like to learn how to work with and train our dogs. This class is also for volunteers who would enjoy taking an older dog home during the evenings or on weekends.
Each class is three hours long and consists of three parts: training methods and discussion of reading material (yes, there is homework); practical training where each person trains specific behaviors; and practice handling and taking a dog out in public. This class offers an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering with the dogs at Service Dogs of Virginia.
Please fill out our volunteer application, and you will be notified as to the date of the next available class. The classes will be led by Peggy Law, our Director of Training. Due to the intensity of the course and the amount of material covered in each class, attendance at all five classes is required. There are a limited number of spaces available in this class, so please let us know if you are interested in attending.
