It costs SDV nearly $20,000 a year to purchase, raise, train, place, and provide follow-up training and assistance for each service dog. As a non-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of individuals, businesses, foundations, and the people who receive our dogs to raise the necessary revenue.
Each client is required to make a commitment to help our organization by contributing a minimum of $8,000. Candidates can meet their commitment out-of-pocket or through a host of fundraising strategies. Service Dogs of Virginia will help facilitate any client fundraising efforts and provide a packet full of easy-to-implement ideas and ongoing support.
If the dog is placed before the committed goal is met, we will either extend the deadline or offer candidates the opportunity to apply for a scholarship. Scholarship awards are conditional on both documented need and evidence of fundraising effort.
